Before the steamer left Nbav Caledonia a schooner arrived from the island with an urgent call for help for the. Avhite settlers, whose lives are threatened', by the natives m revolt. The British and^Frcneh authorities arranged for tbo immediate despatch of a police force and^tho French Avarship Kersaint. The result of their Mission ia unknown.
