RAINBOW WEDDING.

37 BRIDES MARRIED AT THE SAME TIME. PARIS, January 9. Thirty-seven very picturesque weddings were celebrated , simultaneously to-day m the old church of Plougastel, m Brittany. . The brides and bridegrooms all wore Brittany clothes— the husbands m purple jackets (white, green, and redy, with silver buttons, worn one above the other, and black cloth broeches of the "bloomer" type. Round their waists they wore silk scarves of brilliant colors, and on their heads the broad Breton hats with velvet bows and silver clasps. The brides each wore four petticoats of brilliant colors, beautifully embroidered, blue silk aprons, and an immense whito Breton cap. After the weddings a banquet to 400 guests was served m the public square, and dancing to Breton bagpipes and mandolines went on till dusk. Not the least curious thing about the thirty-seven village weddings celebrated all together, is the fact that most of the brides and bridegrooms are related. There were eight Kervallas married today, six Corres, five Le Galls, five Keidoncuffs, four Vigouroux, two, Cannes, two Pages and two Billants.

The Bay of Plenty Times adds: "The progress of Tauranga and district has been retarded for a long time by slanderous assertions sown out 1 side. Now, however, thanks to it« 'progressive farmers, who are proving the capabilities of the land m these parts, prosperity is on a very sound basis, but is nothing to what it will be rwhen the Native lands are settled, the East Ooast railway running, and direct steamer service is established with Wellington. Then the port of Tauranga will take its place along with the important ones of the Dominion.
