ORGANISING INSPECTOR.

.. — ♦ (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The Education Board has instituted u new office of a very interesting nature, and henceforward will include in it* executive staff an organising inspector, From a large number of applications for the position the Board has selected Mr Maurice Priestly, at present of Auck land Training College, as the first holdei of the post. There are among the coun try schools a number of teachers who, from lack of experience and opportunity, need guidance and assistance, and the organising inspector is to supply that guidance and assistance. The Board decided to appoint an officer at a salary oi £350 and actual travelling expenses. In discussing the matter at the meeting the chairman (Mr C. Parr) said that a man specially endowed with peculiar gifts was needed for the position. The inspector would have to go among the small country schools, Avhich were legion in the district compared with those in others, and which were somewhat weakly staffed at present, and to assist the more inexperienced teachers, and help them to understand the real spirit, object, and scope of the syllabus ; also to lay down plans of the work. The move was distinctly one in the right direction, and would improve the efficiency of the schools. The inspector should bo a man of sympathetic temperament, and one Mho had been "through tho mill" himself. The appointment of Mr Priestly was confirmed.
