SUPREME COURT.
(Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, last night. At the Supreme Court a decree nisi was granted on the petition of a husband, who applied under the Act of last session, which prqA"ides insanity as a ground of divorce. Aii interesting case was' before the Supreme Court under the provisions' of the Slaughtering Inspection Act, 1908. The Borough, Council delegated powers to the Wanganui Freezing Company to, establish abattoirs m the town of Wanganui. The Freezing Company have been conducting abattoirs since 1902, and recently the company entered into th© retail trade, and the local butchers objected to the continuance of the poAvers delegated to the company by the Borough Council. They contended that apart from unsatisfactory management, the Freezing Company was given an unfair advantage over other butchers m that they" Avere made aware of competitors' business. Tlie Borough Council was approached" aaid asked to establish an independent ' abattoir, but they refused. Messrs Tucker Bros took the matter to the Supreme Court, AA'hioh gave judgment for the Borough Council and the company, with costs as on a claim for £500, ten guineas extra per day to each defendant, and the usual Court costs. ' CHRISTCHURCH, last night. At the Supreme, Court Charles William Ackerley, of .Christchurch, clerk, •petitioned for the dissolution of his marriage with Annie Mary Gladys Ackerley, on the grounds of desertion and misconduct. His Honor granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute m three months. INVERCARGILL last night. Tlie Supreme Court Avas occupied today hearing a case of alleged 1 sheep .stealing against James Robertson. Accused pleaded not guilty, and the case Avas unfinished when the -Court rose.
