AQUATICS.
GISBORNE CLUB. On the Waimata. river last evening E. Luttrell and L. Gideon rowed off in the final of the maiden sculling competition for Mr. Dustin's trophy. The pair were sent off on even terms, but Luttrell drew nway slightly and lead the way until within 150 yards. of the post, when Gideon put iii a rattling spurt and won by a few feet, his win being a very popular one. The race was an interesting one all through. Luttrell rowed well and steered an excellent course, but his opponent must have lost about three lengths at Dr Williams' coiner through taking 'too wide a turn. POVERTY BAY CLUB. The races in the handicap sculls for Mr H. Sandlant's gpld medal were continued last night the contestants being B. Lowe (14 sees) and F. Seymour (20 sees). • Rowe soon overtook his handicap, and had the- race well in hand all through, eventually winning fairly comfortably. For his first season Rowe is showing good form, and.' with a little coaching is the making of a fine oarsman. He is considered. to have a good show in the, present competition.
