P.B. RUGBY UNION. The annual meeting of the above was held at the Masonic hotel last night, Mill. E. Maude presiding. The secretary (Mr D. Cowan) . sub-mitted-the annual report, as published in "our last issue. The balance-sheet showed the receipts during, the year to have amounted to £498 9s 2d. which included £211 19s 7d brought forward from last year and £206, total gate takings. The expenditure amounted to £140 19s 2d, leaving a balance of £357 10s. The subscriptions to the' accident fund amounted to £13 4s, on which, there had been claims to the extent of £12. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the Chairman said the balance-sheet spoke for itself. There was' no doubt they were' in a very satisfactory position, and' it only required the incoming committee to work like their predecessors and keep the finances in such a position. They required a large amount of expenditure on their grounds to bring them up to such a state that they would not be ashamed, to invite outside teams to visit Gisborne. Their position was very satisfactory, considering the comparatively few footballers there were in the district. The chairman referred to the excellent work done by Mr W. Miller for the Union, which owed its sincerest thanks ' to him. There was no one, he said, who had done more for Rugby football than Mr Miller. Mr Maude suggested that the services of their chairman 'should be recorded on the minutes. .. • Mr Wauchpp seconded the adoption of the reportl He '.thought -they should take it as a compliment tliat there was such a .small . attendance. Referring to finances; Mr . Wauchop pointed' out that their club gate takings had amounted tb £109 9s lld, as against £49 15s for last year. The accident fund had also proved a. satisfactory undertaking. They, had £218 deposited in the bank,' and now there was £146 14s to add to that amount. Mr Wauchop did not think they would be able to send a team ori tour this year ; they should wa.it, until next year. There was no doubt they requji-ed more, ground .to cope with the different kinds of sporfc in Gisborne. Mr Eaton asked why the vice-presi-dents' tickets were not issued last 1 season. It had previously proved a source of revenue. Mr Wauchop explained that the club secretaries had evidently overlooked the matter. The Chairman did, not think the oversight had been a hardship on the Union. It was a question that the incoming committee should keep in view. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. lii accordance with his notice -of motion, Mr Wauchop moved :' "That rule 5 be altered to read: 'That there shall be a Management Cpmmittee of two (2) delegates from each club, together with a chairman, secretary, and treasurer, who shall be appointed at the. annual meeting of ; delegates; find who iteed riot necessarily be delegates; a majority of siioh committee to form a quorum.' 1 ' Mr Wauchop added that 'it,- was vqui^e possible that they mi&ht be able to get some good men to fill these offices who were not able. to be delegates. An. outside secretary coulddevote more time to his duties. ... ' Mr -Cowan secdrided the motion. Frotri experience he thought it would be a move in the right' direction. 'The; Chairman. said there was no doubt the time 'had: arrived- when the secretary-ship-should be distinct from a delegate., He thought it would be vyise on their part to adopt the alteration to the rule, which was a'n absolute necessity. Mr J. J. Martin asked how that would affect the voting. .Mr 'Wauchop said the three officers wduld have a vote as well as the delegates. -■■'.. ,'■ ■■' ', The motion was unanimously carried. The election of officem resulted -as follows -.—President, Mr E. Murphy ; vicepresidents, Messrs J. J. - : Martin '(Kaiti-. City), G. K: .itsley (West End),. A. W. Rees (Takitimu) ; secretary, Mr E. L. Maude; treasurer, Mr J. Wauchop ,\ auditors, Messrs ll.' D. B.\ Robinson and C. M. , Sargissoii; management' committee, Messrs H. Bright and Jl Wauchop (Takitimu), H. E.. Maude and, J. A. Eaton (Kaiti-City), and G. K. Pasley and L. B. Sherriff' (West End); vice T president to New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. W. Miller;, delegate i to New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr H. B. Lusk (Napier) ; chairman of board of management, Mr H. E . Maude. Mr Maude returned thanks for electing him to the position. He had tried hard to get an old football enthusiast to take/ the position, but the latter had pleaded no time. Mr Bright favored the suggestion to record. on the minutes their, great appreciation of Mr Miller's past services. Mr J. \ A. : Eaton, on behalf of the Referees' Association, applied for, a small donation yearly towards the Association's funds. — It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the management committee. / On the mption of Mr- E. L. Maude, seconded by Mr Hay, a vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring officials.-^-Mr Wauchop especially mentioned the work done by Mr Cowan as secretary during his three years' term of office. Mr Wauchop said he wpuld like to remind players of the accident fund, and pointed out that in order to be covered by the fund players must be financial. He also suggested that they should get the gates they had. been talking about for so long placed in position. It would be a great convenience. He added that they intended roping off the grounds this year. Mr Eaton said the • Kaiti-City Club wished the matches commenced early this season, as there were a good many fixtures to get through. The Chairman mentioned the matter of representative teams appointing their own captain. He thought the captain should be chosen hy the delegates, who saw more of the play than the members of the,, team.' It would be more in. the interests of football for the Union to deal with the question. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting. At a meeting of the committee, KaitiCity Club were granted permission to play the Napier Football Club on Saturday. Messrs Ryan Bros., Wellington, wrote offering to donate a silver cup, value £10 10s, to be competed for during the coming season.-^Aecepted, with thanks, the conditions for same to be fixed later. Mr C. M. Sargisson, secretary of the P.B. Hockey Association, wrote 'applying for the use of the Victoria. Domain on the same terms as formerly. — Left over. There was other correspondence, but further business was deferred until' the first meeting of the management committee, to be held next Wednesday.

The annual meeting of the Takitimu Football Club was held in the Masonic hotel on Saturday last. ' "There Mas a good muster of members, Mr J. S. Wauchop in the chair. The report and balance-sheet as read showed the club to be in a good position both financially and in the field. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and bal-ance-sheet, congratulated the club on its success in the senior competition last year, and also on the fact that for the first time since his connection with the country club they were beginning the season* with a credit balance.
