FIRES.

(Received April 16, 8.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 15/ _By a fire at Elmdorp stud,' Lexington, Kentucky, 32 thoroughbred broodmares, including Toque, Rubio' half-sister, and 11 foals perished. OAMARU, this day. . A fire was discovered j'n the lower storey of A. and D. Simpson's furniture warehouse last evening at 7.20. It was extinguished only after the place had been flooded with water. Tlie fire start, ed amongst some flax, and had spread to other inflammable material. The insurances are £150 in the South British, and £750 in the Royal Assurance. The furniture and stock were not much damaged, but the extent of the loss cannot be ascertained till after an overhaul. INVERCARGILL, tliis day. A five-roomed house, occupied by Thos. Hunt and family, at Waikiwi, Was burned last evening. The children were alone in the house, and one, looking with a candle for a plaything, set fire to a sofa. The children got'out'just in time.
