Regret wa6 expressed in sporting circles when the news was circulated that Elevation was lame, and those who had anticipated a great equine battle between the New Zealand horse and Mountain King are likely to be doomed to disappointment. Elevation had done a ding-dong mile with Castaway. The latter had a couple of lengths' advantage at the start, but Elevation was a neck in front at the finish in 1.45.
