The semi-fin.il in the Gisborne Rowing Club's maiden single sculls, , for Mr deLautour's trophy, was decided last evening between B. J. Bright- and E. 'Luttrell. Bright consented to row ;._t the last minute, so as to make the extya heat and consequently was not in form. The pair from an even start raced together as far as the junction, where 'Bricjht, who looked round to locate the bridge, capsized. He scrambled inter the scat again, whilst Luttrell waited for him, and with the boat half full of water ' finished the race out. Luttrell was declared the winner, and the final between him and L. Gideon comes off to-night \ The Poverty Bay Club's handicap sculling competitions were continued last evening, when J. Scott met and defeated R. Houston. The latter conceded 3 seconds, wliich was taken advantage of by Scott, who got a ' goodlength's start. This order was maintained throughout, both oarsmen pulling well, and appearing to be evenly matched. This evening F. Fox (27 sees.) and, F. E. "Porter (20 sees.) will try conclusions. . - -
