SUDDEN DEATH.
MRS J. B. HOLLIER EXPIRES UNDER CHLOROFORM. . A sudden death under most painful circumstances occurred at a local dental surgery this afternoon, when, Mrs J. B. Hollicr, wife of. the. licensee of the Bridge hotel, Matawhero, expired whilst under chloroform prior to a dental operation. Tho deceased, who was about 42 yeais of age, attended at Mr R. Crawford's surgery at 2.35 this afternoon for the purpose; of having some teeth extracted. She was examined prior to the administration of the anaesthetic by Dr Collins in the presence of Mr Crawford and Mrs .Lucas, and in the opinion of the doctor ■deceased was a . fit subject for chloroform. ■■■""'.*" 'A few seconds after the administration of the chloroform the doctor noted that" the pupils of the eyes were dilated, and other indications of heart failure were apparent. He at once applied restorative measures. The patient recovered a little, and almost immediately collapsed. Dr Collins has no doubt that death was due to heart failure.
