The amount collected on .account of the building -fund of the Wellington Unitarian Free Church is now approaching £I£oo. The Union Company's Squall lcavea<; Auckland on aSaturday afternoon lor Tolaga Bay, Gisborne, and Napier. The Squall takes Napier cargo, instead of the Maitai. An application has beon tiled at Wellington to extend the bricklayers' award to apply to 20 parties at Napier, 11 at Mastertbh, 36 at Hastings, and 23 at Palmerston North. A Grcvmouth telegram t 0 the Post states: It is stated that a Wellington solicitor, on behalf of Fitzgerald, is about to institute libel proceedings .against the local ' morning newspaper. Tlie action arises out of Fitzgerald's connection with the Blackball strike. Bennett, the well-known Canterbury cricketer, who bowled well in the representative match against Wellington at the New Year, will leave for England shortly, ,- under engageriient to play professionally for the Worcestershire Olub, in first-class county cricket at Home next season. There is. quite a colony of New Zealanders established in T'iefra del Fuego, at the southern extremity of South America, where they are engaged in gold dredging. Mr Norman Wakefield, a for. mer resident of Otago, has charge of tho dredge Progresso, which lie rc-crccted after some Foreign workmen had made a bad job of it. Two of his crew arc Messrs Burton and Silk, of Otago. Michael Healy, a hotclkeeper at Mecyan, in the Tar win River district (Victoria), was expecting a visit from the Railway Commissioners, and bought from a farmer a sucking pig and a turkey for the table. In tho gizzard of the, turkey he found ten small pieces of gold, weighing in all half an ounce. He at once drove off to the farmer and bought the rest of his flock of turkeys, 30 in all. These have 'not yet been killed.
