THE LABOR PROBLEM.
(Per Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, this day. The acuteness of the labor problem -was pointed out by Mr Arch. Clark, chairman of the Auckland Industrial Association yesterday. He said the prejudice against local industries had been to a great extent overcome, but they were faced' with' great- difficulty -'in connection: with the labor supply in the soft goods trade. His 7 firm, alone could < find employment -for.- 60 to 100 hands more. In consequence of the 'shortage; of labor, and much against the firm's will, they liad to. import goods which t-liey could manufacture hbre to greater advantage, and possibly ..sell locally with greater profit to themselves, but: they were not able to do so; because they could not- get labor to manufacture tlie goods tlie public were crying out for. It was a- very serious : matter, and a question which the association should take up.
