GISBORNE ROWING CLUB
The maiden sculling competition for Mr JJ. E: Dustin's trophy . was continued last evening on tne Wainuitu river, when E. D. Chatfield met L. Gideon. A very close race ensued down to the bridge, where Chatfield had a slight lead. Here lie came over into Gideon's water, and the latter had to run almost on the mud to avoid a bad loul. The pair lined up again at the bridge, and mado.a fresh start, Gideon this time getting a slight advantage, vv hen^ opposite the Tuatea's berth Chat held again encroached on his opponent's course, and the judge's 'decision was. given in favor of Gideon. To-night E. JLiUttrell meets either Bright or Gumming 111 lhe semi-final.
