HASTINGS, this day. All the drivers who jytruck yesterday, with the exception of one man, returned to their respective carts this morning. One master baker agreed to pay the wages demanded. T'he other bakers declined to consider the men's demands. In the case of the man who was not taken back, his employer states that he decided to dispense with that driver's service prior to the strike. It is probably due to Factory Inspector Culver's interview-- wi tli the men yesterday that the strike was terminated. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. INVERCARGILL, this day. A sum of £18 10s in notes and gold was stolen from the safe in the bar of the Golden Age hotel. Bluff, between Saturday evening and Monday morning. A young half-caste employed at the hotel has* been arrested on suspicion.
