, {Per Press Association.) WAIROA, this day. The Haramua squadron of the East Coast battalion have left for Easter manoeuvres. They pick up the Mohaku wing en route, and will oe 50 strong. Captain Bax is m command. HASTINGS, this day. The master bakers are refusing to put on men m place of the strikers, many of whom are married men, and evince a desire to come to terms and resume work. They wait upon employers to-night, and discuss the situation. The employers and bakehouse hands took the delivery carts round this morning. Trade is uninterrupted. WANGANUI, tins day. The Conciliation Board sat this morning to hear the general laborers' dispute as affecting local bodies and contractors. The employers, considering there was no local demand for increased wages, and therefore no dispute, did not appear, but several were subpoenaed, by the Board and gave evidence. The chairman said that no matter whether the dispute affected local contractors, it originated m the Wellington industrial district, and therefore had to be heard as affecting the whole district. Several workers' representatives also gave evidence. The Board adjourned to Palmerston North, and tliereufter sits at other centres. WELLINGTON, this day. The following changes m the Customs Department have been decided upon : Mr Hawley, collector at Qisbovne, to be collector at Timaru. vice Mr Cojebrook. retired; Mr Howie, collector at orevmouth, to be collector at Gisborne ; Mr V. I. Walker, landing waiter fit Wnnganuj, to bo collector at Greymoulh j Mr
S. Harrop, landing waiter at Wellington, to, be transferred to Wanganui. The livst meeting of the. third Board under the Government Railway .Superannuation, Fund Act, 1902, was* held today. ' There were present : Hon. HallJonoij. Minister for Railways, (m the chair), the Solicitor-General, Public Trustee, general manager for railways, Messrs A. Graham (Timaru), and Mr R. M. Isaacs (Wellington) representing the first division, and N. Pepper, M. Thomas, and J. Dawson, representing the second division. The Board dealt with 14 cases of retirement, and passed allowances m connection therewith, totalling £878 per yerir. Refunds of contributions, amount, ing to £408, were made with respect to 54 persons, who had been contributing to the fund. An allowance of £18 per year was made to an engine driver's widow, and £13 a year to the posthumous child o f a stationmaster. It is understood that the income of the fund last year was approximately £51,000, and that the payments made from the fund amounted to £35,000. ■ .
