GISBORNE CLUB.

A number of enthusiasts met on ihe Gisborne Club's green on Saturday and spent a pleasant afternoon. A couple of full link games wore played, and Birss 18 beat Paltridge 13 m a single contest.

Taylor's, Whatatutu. An interesting discovery was made 'n Victoria street, Christchurch, this week,, while excavations were being made for a cellar. A large log was found about eight feet below the surface, and a little lower an oaken cask, which had been placed! over a spring, was unearthed, ihe log was very hard and the cask was also m an excellent state of preservation. It is surmised that they are relicß of the habitation of some early settler, but they must have been m their hiding place for many years to allow of such a depth, of soil to accumulate over them .
