The following games were played on the Turanganui green on .Saturday afternoon m the handicap singles competition for Mr I. S. Simsori's gold medal : —W, Ratcliffe 23 beat J. P. Williams 17 ; R. Skeet 18 beat Skillicorn 16 ; B. Hird 18 bent D. Hepburn 16; J. Colley 23 beat C. Morse 14. The following is a description of the play :— Williams v. Ratcliffe : Ratcliffe having to give his opponent two points it seemed from the early portion of the game that Williams held his end: up well, on, the 6th head Williams having good lead, being 10 to opponent's!, tout .from then on only scoring 7 points. Katcliffe gradually pressed on, overhauling him by the time the 13th head was reached. Good play come to bpth sides on the 17th head, Williams,, scoring 4, but nevertheless Ratcliffe . was not to be beaten, and when the 21st head was played won over Williams by 6 points. 1 Skeet junr. v. Skillicorn: This produced very good playing between the pair, the young colt proving the winner over Skillicorn by 2 points. In- the game between Hepburn v. Hird some good playing resulted. Hepburn started off the mark with two on the first head, then four on the second^ making the total six to Hird's nil. Then thinking time was up the latter put things together, and when at the Bth head Hird was leading by two. From then on the game was m and out. By the 20th head both were level. Hird drawing two good bowls won by two points Hird was m difficulties when Hepburn kept him on the long heads. In the game Colley v. Morse, Colley having to give two points, from the commencement of this game there never seemed sny doubt as to who would be the winner. All the same some really good drawing shots *were played. Evidently Morse requires more practice, having a beautiful style, but the older player out-manoeuvred the colt, Colley winning easily with one head unfinished by 23 to 14.
