TE ORANGA ENQUIRY.

(Per Press Association.) , CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The Te.OTanga Home inquiry' was' continued to-day, when Mrs Brantihg gave evidence, refuting the oliarges. She stated in reference to the girl in the Samaritan Home that she wanted the girl back because the situation she proposed to take was not. suitable, as she would be too much on. her own responsibility and without supervision. She: had her *hair cut off as an absconder, but only after permission had been granted by the Department. She (the witness) had ordered the girl to scrub floors in her bare feet so that her boots, stockings and clothing would be dry when she had finished. With regard to- the gratuity to the postman, charged on the vouchers as fruit for dinners, she admitted doing it, but not with the object of deceiving the Department. The strap was only used as a last resource after persuasion had failed. She would Hke to see the classification system adopted, as it would do away with a large amount- 'of corporal punishment.
