The coal lumpers' ultimatum is -tliat. they will not take any part m a conference with" a view to settlement of the strike, umless tho unpopular stevedore's foreman is dismissed. This has had no effect on the attitude of the employers, who express their determination to stand firm. They declare tliat the labor obtained through their bureau m conjunction with ships' crews is sufficient for requirements. The delegates of the Seamen's Union conferred with the Employers' Association m reference to the situation. ,The result was not disclosed, but it is reported that the local urioCS which have been approach-- by 'the strikers show little sympathy witli ah extension of the difficulty, j ■'■-..', ; The strikers relax none of their vigilance or confidence.
