VANCOUVER MAIL SERVICE.
■■ . . — ♦ — — ■ (Press Assn.— By Telegraph.— Copyright.) MELBOURNE, April 26. , A deputation of Queensland Senators intei' vievved the Postmaster-General, and urged consideration of .Queensland's cjaims i regarding the re-arrangement of the Vancouver service. The Senatoi 1 - were apprehensive that the New Zealand Govern, ment's proposal to join the new contract might result m the exclusion of Queensland as a, port of call. Mr Chapman promised that Queensland's claims would have complete consideration. He subsequently stated that the present negotiations nave m view an improved service with a better class of boats. The Union Company is building some new boats, but it is unlikely that fresh steamers will be immediately run on the line if the contract was completed. . WELLINGTON, last night. < "We have always been prepared to enVter into any reasonable negotiations for a Vancouver service that is subject to call- j ing at a, New Zealand port," stated the! Acting-Premier (the: Hon. W. Hall-Jones) this afternoon, m discussing' the latest cable message on tliis subject. "That has been the difficulty so far. # There are two : points: Calling at New Zealand and a better class of steamer being put on." Mr Hall-Jones gave an opinion that Sydney people were trying # to get Sydney as the port of departure instead of Brisbane, and he was under, the impression that they -were endeavoring to secure a . bigger service." - ' ; : - - = '■-■
