HEAT WAVE.
DISASTROUS BUSH FIRES. (Press Assn. — By Telegraph^— Copyright.) (Received January 24, 10.31 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 24. Yesterday was the hottest day m the city since 1862, the thermometer registering 110£ m the shade. A heat wave has passed over the State, accompanied by disastrous bush fires m every direction. The town of Daylesford narrowly escaped being swept away. The fire is now raging along a frontage of ten miles. It is feared the whole country between Daylesford and Gastlemaine is doomed, unless the wind abates. Many thousand acres of grass,, and m some cases crops, have been destroyed. Shops and houses on 'the outskirts of Daylesford were burnt. One man lost his life endeavoring to save his effects.
