The architect of the Nelson College, which was destroyed by fire this week, was Mr Beatson (says an historian). On the opening day he made a .speech, the concluding portion of which; was ; "The building will be of tlie best- heart of totara procurable, and) with the blessing of God and five coats of paint it will be a credlit and ornament to Nelson for ■many years to come."
