THE HALF-HOLIDAY.

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, —Your correspondent who gets int<> print under :i.n alias, that of "Retailer"' (probably at other people's suggestions), to sneer at my honestly-given, opinion as to the advantages of everyone observing the .same half-day sees blindly. His interpretation of the'gist of my letter is quite parochial, and a-s far away from the point as the Poles. I merely suggested that it seems ridiculous m such a smii.ll community to observe different half-holidays, and as "Assistant" says a referendum taken as to which day should be observed would, he thinks, result m a. big majority for Saturday as the day, together with the fact that the banks, insurance, lsi.w and Government offices will never change from that day, it is fair to conclude that that day would be the most popular one.. Personally, I do not care a. fig which dwy be observed, but I would like to see one day appointed for the whole, if only to encourage the object of the weekly halfholiday. "Retailer's" drivel, as to the advantages of my being enabled to parade b} r the light of his shop windows on Saturday night is as ridiculous as his misconstruction of my letter. —l am, etc.. H. PLIMMER.
