FIRE ON A TRAIN.
♦- . . (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., this day. Much consternation was caused to passengers by the train from Palmerston to Dannevirke yesterday ! morning, when about a mile and a-half from Ashhurst a truck containing about a ton of tow was discovered to be on fire. By the time the train was stopped and the truck detached, the tow was a body of flames. , A number of railway men were fortunately on the train, and they, assisted by the passengers ''and settlers, were'' soon at work endeavoring to capsize tJie tiuck'X^ off the rails. The truck, which wu« a complete wreck, was jacked off the line, and the train proceeded. It is stated that the truck-load was valued at £180.
