RETRENCHMENT AND TAXATION. E eotrio Telegraph-Copyright—United Press Association. (Received July 25 11.21 a.m.) HOBART, Puly 25. In the Assembly the Treasurer delivered his Budget speech. The revenue for the year totalled £826,000 and the expenditure £870,000. It is proposed to make retrenchment to the extent of £33,----000. The estimate of revenue for next year is £861,000 and of expenditure £860----000. It is proposed to impose further taxation, and the Treasurer suggests the reimposition of receipt stamp duty, the substitution of a house for an income tax, assessment of incomes of non-householders, and taxation of trading companies with ! their headquarters outside the State. He anticipates obtaining £134,000 by financial adjustments, including £25,000 by an increased railway rate.
