AMALGAMATION.
COOK COUNCIL SUPPORT INQUIRY.
At, the Cook County Council meeting this afternoon the Chairman, stated that Mr Lysimr had asked him to bring up the matter of amalgamation. Cr King said Whalaupoko, and Kaiti were now part of the borough, and they should assist them to get amalgamation. It would get over the difficulty of bridge m-mitenance.
Cr Tomble.son said there had always been a standing grievance about the financial relations of the siiburbs and county. A motion of the sort, proposed would have the effect of getting the financial position anived at, when, it would be found whether the suburbs were saddled witli the debts of the county as stated.
It was unanimously decided that the Council support the petition, to have an inquiry into the matter, the following resolution being adopted : "That this Council urge the Grovea-nmemt to accede to the request of the petitioners, for amalgamation of portions of Kaiti and Whataupoko with the borough-of Gisborne, to have a commission set up to deal with the amalgamation question, as this Council consider the interests of the Kaiti, and Whataupoko ratepayers1 can be belter served by -the Borough Council than as at present constituted partially through this Council." ."
