. , AUCKLAND, this day. The Northern Steamship Company are advised that the steamer Kau-ieri, irhich went ashore at the Waitara some weeks ago, was floated on Saturday night. She sustained very little damage. She comes io Auckland for a. general overhaul. Arrived, H.M.S. Lizard, from Sydney, and s.s. Waimate from London, via Port Elisabeth." The latter has 2400 tons of cargo, 2000.0f which is for Auckland During the voyage of the Waimate from London the chief steward, Mr Churches, died and was buried at sea. Obituary : Laurence Arthur Levy, aged 51, a member of the Auckland Stock Exchange. WELLINGTON, this day. Scad's Hotel, one of the largest in Wellington, has been sold to Mr G. McParland for between £30,000 and £40,000. Yesterday was Mr Seddon's fiftyseventh birthday. His colleagues telegraphed congratulations. . CHRISTCHURCH. this day. A store occupied by' John Jones in Sydenham was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The outbreak was caused apparently by a defective chimney. The stock was insured for £375 in the Australian Alliance office, and the furniture for £75 itr the Royal office. The property belonged to Mrs James Brown, and' was insured for £200 in the Guardian office. .DUNEDIN, this day. Alfred Bruton, aged 14 years, while driving a cart near St. Kilda Hotel on Saturday, struck his horse, which; became restive. The boy jumped off, and and wheel of the cart passed over his head. He was taken to the' hospital at about 1.30, where it was found he was suffering from fractures of the upper part of the skull and severe injury to the brain. The lad died at half-past three.
