There arc at present over sixty children of school age at Ongarue, on the Main Trunk railway works, south of Poro-o-Taruo, and applications have been made to the Taranaki Board of Education for a teacher. Although the place is m the Taranaki province, there is no road connecting with Taranaki proper, and the o-iiy access is from Auckland. The nearest school is at Taumaraunui, which has just been erected by the Government for the Natives.
