The Agent-General's cablegram, dated London 16th .states: — Average price of Canterbury mutton 3gd, Wellington Meat ' Export Company, Dunedin and Southland 3jd, North Island 3£d, River Plate 3d. Market depressed. The quantity going into consumption at present is very email, and the stocks on hand are heavy. Canterbury lamb 4£d, lamb other than Can- ] terbury 4d ; scarcely any demand for i lamb. No alteration m beef since last . week. Good demand for choicest butter, i Australian 112s. Cheese, steady price 465. Hemp, quiet. Holders firm, buyers banging back. Good, fair Wellington, spot £33, February to April shipment £31. NAPIER, this day. Messrs. Nelson Bros, received the.following special cable from the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company: "River Plate shipments very large. Prices ' very unsettled. Use greAt caution m buying." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report upon stock sale held" 15th November: — "The yarding of both sheep and cattle was smaller than usual, and the attendance* rather less than average, oving no doubt to so many people being busy shearing. Sheep were slack of sale. Hoggets, m trool, had to be sent horne 1 , buyer and seller not agreeing as to value. Old ewes and good percentage lambs brought 12s 9d; dry ewes, old, 7s 9d, both m wool. Cattle : Demand was fairly good. Springing heifers me* a ready sale at good prices. We sold dairy cows £4 to £9 ss, light beef cows to £4 15s, 15-month steers £3 15s. Pigs : Weaners made 6s! Our next sale is fixed for 28th inst.
