HUNTING AND POLO AT TOLAGO.
The Tolago Carnival season commenced on Saturday with a run of the Poverty Bay bounds, which was' participated m and greatly enjoyed by a large Held. The run took place at the invitation of Messrs D. Macfarlane and G. M. Reynolds on the Maagaheia and Broadlands properties, which made excellent liuntine country. Hounds threw off at 11 o'clock near Hr Reynold's homestead, and after moving through several fields crossed the river on to Broadlands, where some stiff jumps were successfully negotiated. After 20 minutes run hounds checked at the Point. The second spell was a nivrry one, finishing near the starting point, where Mr. Beynolds, on the return of the party had an excellent luncheon m readiness. Amongst the field were Messrs Cyril White (Master) on Czar, Colin Dunlop (huntsman) on Sailor, Oliver Evans (whip) on The Maliia Cat, Donald Macfarlone on Sandy, J. M. (JuuldrtHitb on a clu«tnut. W. P. Sinclair <»i Givyling.! H. D. Evans on Serenader, T. Sherratf on Uaere, U. Biwllev. J- B- Murphy, G. M. Keynold^s, R Sherrattt, B. Bennettt, M. Murphy, R. B«ynuldt!, E. Williauuf, J. B. Morris, Beeves J. Martin, and several native member* of thg Mahia polo team. In the afternoon a, polo match between Poverty Bar and Maogaheia w\s played,
the teams being:— Poverty Bay: G. JBradley, captain* back; Harley Evans, "3; R. Sherratt, 2; T. Sherratt 1. Mangaheia: J. R. Murphy, captain, back; G. Reynolds 3; R. Reynolds, 2; M. R. Murphy 1. The game was a fast and slashing one. Mangaheia winning, by 5 points to -4. Poverty Bay were leading to the last spell, when Murphy's team, who were splendidly mounted, by some very fine play snatched thfc victory. Mr 0. Evans acted as referee, Mr Cyril White as official, scorer, and Mr J. B. Morris as timekeeepef, and everything passed off satisfactorily. '
