The Premier has received the following from the Canadian Premier : — " The Canadian Government considers~the granting of the terms proposed by the Eastern Telegraph Company, even when the Pacific cable is laid, Hill seriously affect the financial prospects and impair the usefulness of the Pacific scheme. The action proposed is a material alteration of the conditions fixed by the Government with respect to the Pacific cable partnership, and may endanger the scheme. No change can be made without the consent of every partner."
