(Per Press Association.)

Wellington, this day. A cable has been received from the Premier of New South Wales confirming the outbreak of the plague, and stating that every precaution has been taken to prevent it spreading. Strict measures are being enforced to stamp it out. The New Zealand Government has made a more rigid order for examining the Sydney steamers.

Auckland, this day. The Waihora, from Sydney, arrived in the stream at 11 o'clock. On inspection by the health officer he found no sign of disease, but in view of recent cases of the plague at Sydney he has telegraphed to Wellington before granting the steamer permission to berth.

Later.— The Waihora berthed at the wharf at 2 o'clock. There are no passengers for Gisborne.
