! A thunderbolt fell at Dannevirkc during a s f orm last Monday. It narrowly missed Mr Freeman's resilience in Miller's load, and Ktrucl; a telegraph pole just opposite. The impact caused a shock that was clearly felt, and the hall of lire shed a glaie which was observed at a considerable distance. The telegraph pole was splintered.
A stickiug-np case occureed on the Buller road, Kcefton, on Wednesday. Mrs Millig.in. the wife of a settler at Tnangahua Valley, was proceeding on horseback In Reefton, when two men, one masked and carrying a knife, attempted to unhorse her. She galloped away, however, and the police subsequently arrested one of the men.
