The extravagant payments to secure directors to the Company in which he was interested and misconduct and fraud respecting the Beestou Tyre Company contributed to the insolvency. Bankrupt did not keep proper books, and was privy to the mutilation of cheque books and'other frauds, besides the Beeston transaction. Sqnircs, the man recently arrested at Capetown, was charged at Bow Street Police Court along with Roodman, one of the directors of the Westralian Gold Trading Company, and others arrested some time ago, with conspiring to defraud the public to the extent of one million and a half in connection with the floating and operations of the Company. The Official Receiver states that Hooley lived at the rate of £10,000 a year, and a year's payments to secure directors amounted to £40,000.
