• TROUBLE IN THE TRANSVAAL. A DISQUIETING SITUATION. KRUGER'S BRIBERY. (Electric Telegrapli-Copyriclit— United Press Associntion.) Capetown, Jan. 16. The telegraph wires from the Transvaal to the Cape are closed, and consequently the result of the disturbances at Johannesburg is unknown. League meetings have been held in various parts of the Cape. The situation is regarded as disquieting. London, Jan. 16. The Daily News, in a strong article, coudemns any encouragement being shown to the Boer suicidal policy of injustice and oppression. (Received Jan. 17, 9.30 a.m.) The Daily Chronicle combats the argument put forward by Mr Cecil Rhodes for an Imperial guarantee for the BulmvayoTanganyika railway. The journal states that Rhodesia has been a gigantic failure. (Received Jan 17,9.40 a.m.) The Times states that the Transvaal has distributed .£740,000 in bribery m Europe to prevent the lease of Delagoa Bay to Great Britain.
