MR SEDDON'S LATEST.

• ALL AUSTRIANS TO BE EXCLUDED. EVEN THE ARCHDUKE FRANCIS. Elcottio Telegraph— Copyright— United Press Association.) Sydney, <lan. 15. Air Lohmann, manager of the North Gorman Lloyds Company at Sydney, has cabled to M r Seddon stating that he lias been informed by the Union Company that they would in future refuse to carry all Austrians with or witliout means. As this means the exclusion of all Austrians, even distinguished and prominent men, he asks the Premier to cable under what Act they are excluded, and whether it is a fact that there shall be no exception, or limits to the money required. Mr Lohmnmi, in an interview, says the exclusion of prominent wealthy Austrians is an absurdity. Under the Premier's edict the Archduke may be excluded. Had the Premier with an Act of Parliament at his back fixed the condition that Austrians should possess £10 he might have had a reasonable position, but the present policy of total prohibition without Parliamentary sanction was beyond comprehension. The question which now presents itself is what will be the position of the officers and men of the Austrian warships which arrive in the colonies in a month. Will they bo prevented from lauding in New Zealand ? Launcestox, Jan. 16. A meeting at Zechan strongly protested against the threatened influx of Austrian from New Zealand. Auckland, to-day. Eighty-ei«ht Austrians arrived by the s.s. Sloiioia from Sydney on Sunday night and landed quietly. Their names were taken by a Customs officer. Sixty go at once to draining work in the Waikato to qualify for three months' residence required to obtain licenses to dig gum, and the others are expected to be similarly provided for. A great crowd of people witnessed the arrival of the steamer, but thn Austrians did not go ashore till midnight, when everything was quiet, and proceeded to various boarding houses. These are believed to be the last Austrians who left Dalmatia before the authorities were notified of the restrictive legislation.
