Last year they were lost in the Ruapehu, and caused a great deal of anxiety and confusion in' consequence. At a meeting of shareholders of the Wakamarina Gorge and Deep Creek Mining Company, a resolution was proposed to wind up on account of ill-success and want of funds, but an amendment was carried by 15 to 5 to raise sufficient capital to go on with the working. Complaints have been made as to the late delivery of the Vancouver mails in London. This is the fault of the Atlantic service, as the Vancouver steamers are running up to time, and no penalty has been incurred for nine months. The mail reaches New York on Wednesday, and only four fast steamers leave that cfay, all American, when the mail is put on slower boats. There is sometimes a loss of three days in reaching London. AUCKLAND, To-day. It is understood that Mr Sorensen, local representative of Melville's Corporation, has received a cablegram to the effect that £2000 working capital has been provided by the option holders over the Great Barrier mine. Messrs Rymill Bros., of Adelaide, who came to race the Geisha at' the intercolonial yachting championship, left by the Westralia for home. They hope to return next year. A meeting of creditors of C. W. Goodsoh was held yesterday in order to receive another voluntary dividend. He has paid voluntarily to his creditors since 1867 £1589, and pays now £360. He hopes to pay the balance of £360 before the close of the present year, and thus liquidate the last moral claim binding on him. At a meeting of the Tournament Committee, to reconsider the decision as to the disposal of Jubilee funds, a proposal to give the money to the hospital waa rejected, also an amendment to divide the aum between the liospitnl and Queen's statue. Finally, a resolution to devote it to the statue was carried by 17 to 16. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company is proceeding. The chairman expressed regret that the company had again to meet severe and quite unprecedented- losses on first-alasg riska. lln consideration of the strength of the | reserves the directors felt justified in | recommending a dividend of two shillings a share for the second half year, making 10 per cent, per annum. The business showed a steady increase in almost all branches.
