Reeves read a paper at the Article Club, in which he maintained that all experience showed that trade followed the British flag all the world over. The Liberal party meets on February Gth to eleqt a leader as successor to Sir W. V. Harcourt. The Amalgamated Society of Engineers have repaid £50,000 of strike loans and now possess a reserve fund of £200,000. The South Wales miners have affiliated with the Labor Federation, and decided not to renew the sliding scale. The Standard states that Germany has bought the Caroline Islands. Occupation will follow satisfaction of peace between America and Spain. Edward Priestman, who has taken a leading part in the efforts to reopen the Tichborne ease, writes to the press in reference to LeClerc's statement. He says LeClerc told him while Tichborne was staying at LeClerc's that he bad revealed to him (LeClerc) much of his former life. He showed him some of the Tichborne jewels and other relies. Priestman points ont that it was in 1859 Tichborne stayed with LeClerc, while it was in 1865 a headless trunk supposed to be Tiehborno's was found. Ho claims that it was Williiam Cress well, tlie confinee of the Paramatta Asylum, otherwise Rocer Tichborne, who stayed with LeClerc. He also alleges that the facts came to his knowledge last year that Cresswell knew a man had been murdered in mistake for himself. ATHENS, Jan. 9. King George of Greece sustained an injury to his foot through ;i statue falling upon it.
