» — Auckland, to-day. , The body of Charles Brown has been re-, covered, terribly knocked about. - - The flood was the most serious that has been experienced for many years. . The Patea rose until the railway wharf waV covered and a large part of the country* wftß -■ flooded. The Waitekauri bridge was carried "' away, and the bridge leading to the Golden Cross and Grace Darling mines were swept ' away. Considerable damage was done--" throughout the district. . "r The river has now gone down. ■ , „, Christchurch. to-day. Late rains have caused the flooding ot the lowlying parts of the country distriots. The ;' rivers are high. The weather shows no 7 signs of clearing. ',- Wellington, to-day. . In the Wairarapa district heavy rain haB" ; fallen and the rivers in some places over- ,V flowed their banks and serious damage ut.-. ' reported. In town the rain was not heavy ■ but the weather is very unsettled. . ■
