London, Juno 23. Obituary : Sir Augustus Harris. [Sir Augustus Harris was king of the London theattioal world, and his death will be deeply regretted by the profession and lovera of the drama in every part of the British dominion. Having made hiß debut as as actor in 1873, six years later he became manager of Drury Lane Theatre, in whioh he has produced and collaborated numerous plays and pantomimes, the mounting of which was always carried out upon a scale of great magnificence. In 1888 he acquired Covent Garden Theatre, where he has conducted opera with great success. Indeed", it may be said that no man has done more to foster opera in England than Sir Augustus Harris. Unlike mosb members of the profession, Sir Augustus has played his part in civil affairs, having for a number of years been one of the sheriffs of London. After the visit of the German Emperor in 1891, when Drury Lane royally entertained royalty, the honor of knighthood was conferred upon him.]
