Proas Association — Eleotric Telegraph -Copytlgh BRISBANE, June 16. The new Parliament assembled to-day. After members had been sworn in the Hon. A. 0. Uowley was re-elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The official opening takes place to-morrow, when the Speech from the Throne will be delivered. A forecast of the Governor's speech indicates a Bill enabling the colony to take part io federation. One of the first measures to be brough forward is the new Customs Duties Sill to remove existing anomalies, and a Bill to facilitate the settlement of lands is also promised. The predicted revival of prosperity is verified with signs of a further marked improvement. The revenue for the present financial year is satisfactory. An expansion of the surplus is anticipated. SYDNEY. June 16. Kirby and Bassett were again before the Court to-day when the original warrants, produced by the police officers from Wellington, were presented, and accused were remanded to Wellington. They will probably be despatched to that city by the first steamer leaving direct. Gell who fell from the gallery in the Tivoli theatre and caused the death of the man M antler has been committed to trial on a charge of manslaughter. From the evidence j adduced it appears that accused endeavored to force his way into the front seats by climbing over the shoulders of those seated, and in the struggle overbalanced himself. June 17. — The large clothing factory of Wallace and Co., in Clarence street, was burned this morning. The damage cannot at present be estimated. The Premier informed the Assembly that Government intended to review the cases of the Mount Bennie prisoners at an early date, PERTH, June 17. The celebration of a child's birthday by the Japanese at Bcoome had a tragic termination. One of the guests came armed with a rifle, revolver, and sword, and fired three shots at a countryman without effect and then cut the unfortunate man in half with one sweep of his sword. The murderer returned to his own house, threatening the cunstables and Europeans by the way, and shot ljmself dead. ADELAIDE, June 17. In the Assembly the Premier stated that the Government was waiting for proposals from New Zealand, as announced in the Governor's speech, wifchregard to reciprocity.
