THE COAL STRIKE.

Newcastle, June 16.. A meeting of upwards of seventy ship owners has issued a circulor requesting colliery owners to consider the serious detention of vessels, and if possible to offer the miners the o'.d terms to resume work. It was pointed out that over 170,000 tons of shipping are lying idle in Newcastle. The owners replied claiming that the strike was unreasonable in the present state of trade, and that the men had acted with shameful ingratitude,' causing enormous losses to the owners and crippling the trade. They indicated that a meeting of owners would be held in Sydney to-day. It is believed that tho masters intend to take decisive action, but there is considered to be no chance of a compromise being effeoted.
