The following (ire the results of the chief events of tho first day at the Australian Natives Association's cycling carnival, at which some £2000 was offered in prizes : — International Scratch Mile : Porta (Italy) 1; Parsons (Victoria) 2; Marten (America) 3. Parsons had obtained a long lead at the half distance but thn Italian put on a splendid spurt, cut him down amid great excitement, and won by a few inches. Time 2min 44 l-sth sees. Five Mile Championship ok Australia : Marten (America) 1 ; Lewis (New South Wales) 2 ; Porta (Italy) 3. Porta lodged a protest against the American on the ground that he had unfairly interfered with him. The protest was upheld and the race was awarded to Lewis, Porta second. Parsons started but dropped out at the end of a mile
