The Barque Lothaire.

Wellington, to-day. The detention of the barque Lothaire, which, while on the voyage from Hongkong to Callao, put into Nelson with several of her crew disabled through sickness, while several had died from a -disease resembling dengue fever, is causing some interest here, owing to the somewhat heated correspondence between the Government and Mr G. Fisher, Italian Consul. Mr Fisher urged that the vessel should be quarantined here, where there was every convenience of treating the patients, but the suggestion was not adopted, as the Government, after communicatiug with the medical officers in Nelson were uncertain whether the disease was an epidemio of a kind likely to be dangerous to the public health. Instructions, however, have been issued for a further inspection by two independent medical men (Drs. Boor and Gibbs), and the ship will be quarantined or otherwise as the case may need.
