"Wellington Anniversary-
Wellington, to-day. A public holiday is being observed on the fifty-sixth anniversary of Wellington province. The weather is fine overhead, but a strong northerly wind is making things disagreeable in town. The chief attraction in addition to the races at the Hutt, iB the Port Nicholson Yacht Club's annual regatta, but this fixture is not causing so much interest as usual owing to the absence of outside entries. There was a large exodus to tho country by the morning trains. Later. — The heavy sea in the harbor interfered considerably with the success of the regatta, several smaller craft being unable to face the elements. In the first-class yacht race the Waitangi has a good lead, and will probably win, with the Maritana second. The Ngaire, late of Auckland, was five minutes late in starting. The Isca has a commanding lead in the second-class event. The Atalanta, late of Napier, did not start. The Jennie Read won the third-class race.
