Lord Balcarne has been elected to fill the vacant seat, Chorley, in the House of Commons, caused by the death of LieutenantGeneral Fielder. June 8. — A marriage has been arranged between "the Duke of Argyle and Miss McNeill, one of the Maids of Honor. June 9. — Cowen's opera "Howard" has been produced at Covent Garden with great success. The Port Victor from Sydney, lost 17 cattle, including 5 which were specially dieted. The remainder arrived in good condition, but they will all have to be killed at Deptford, owing to the steamer having called at Malta.
