A BOREAL WINTER.
ATLANTIC LINERS OVERDUE. Washington, Feb. 7. Terrifically cold weather has been experienced in the Northern States, where the thermometer averages 25deg. below zero, and oOdeg. in the Western Statep. Lake Champlain is entirely frozen over. London, Feb. 7. A violent snow blizzard swept over Scotland and the northern portions of England' and Wales. Many trains are snowbound, and ice floes block the upper reaches of the Thames. The present winter is said to be the most severe experienced since 1880. The French American liner Cascoigne and the Cunard steamer Cephalonia are overdue, and some anxieiy is felt for their safety, owing to the Majestic reporting a terrible storm in crossing the Atlantic, and various signs of disaster. | The thermometer in London and suburbs : has fallen below zero.
