INTERPROVINCiAL.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, To-day. Representations having been made to the Hon. Mr Ward that large importations of wheat and flour are being made into the colony from Australia, he has indicated that in the interests of New Zealand farmers, the duty on these articles will be increased with ■ out delay. The Evening Press, referring to the attack on Mr Ward, to which he alluded in the House, says :— " We gladly admit that so far as we know anything of Mr Ward's record, there is no member of tho House •who less deserves that any slur should be east on his private character, than he does. We have* already expressed the opinion that the administration of his Department appears to be conducted on fairer, and more legitimate lines than that of some of his colleagues." The Premier advises that the Government intend to raise the age of consent to what was originally proposed.
