The Shooting Affray.
Wellington, last night. The result of the Coroner's inquest was that the jury brought in a verdict of manslaughter Against Finley, bat considered there was not sufficient evidence against Seel, whom they acquitted. There is great indignation at tho verdict, the public condemning it in strong terms. The evidence pointed forcibly to the direct intention of murder, by Finley proceeding aboard the vessel and procuring a revolver, and then searching for the seamen. Seel was re-arrested and taken to the Terrace goal. VVelliwgtox, to-day. Both Seele and Finley, in evidence at the inquest, denied thit the former knew anything about the latter having a revolver or that he urged him to use it till Greonrose had been shot. One witness for the dofenco said when tho sailors boarded the Flint on Sunday morning Lynch said that he was looking for Seele to give him a pair of black eyes. The inquesfe has shown pretty clearly that both men were roughly handled on Saturday night, and that the others were deliberatbly looking for them on Sunday to renew the assault ; also that Finley was knocked down and kicked before he used the revolver ; hence, no doubt, the milder verdict than expected. Notwithstanding tho verdict of the jury the police proceed to-morrow with the charges against Finley and Seel. The Crown Prosecutor will appear against the accused.
