[Per Press Association. (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 17. Ifc has branspired bhab on the last trip of the Manapouri to Molbourno she touched ground slightly during a dense fog near Capo Schank. Capt. Logan reported fche matter to the Marine Board and at a meeting of the latter a motion was carriod cautioning the captain to be more careful in future. An amendment that a charge of misconduct be preferred against him was negatived by fche casting vote of tho chairman. Ib appears that fche lead was never used. The vessel was placed in dock but fche examination proved thab the vessel had sustained no damacre. The Commissioner of Customs is nofc satisfied afc fche Board's decision, and is considering the propriety of orderinganofcherinvestigabion, tne authorities thinking thafc the captain's conduct deserving of more severe treatment than a caution. THURSDAY ISLAND, Aug. 17. The majority of fche cruisers started for Brisbane to-day, the remainder accompanying the Orlando, which sails on Wednesday. They rendezvous afc Brisbane, then proceed to Newcastle and Sydney. After coaling and taking in provisions, the fleet sail for Melbourne on the 19fch Sept., leaving again for Adelaide on October 2. From Adelaide one cruiser will be sent to Launceston and another to Freemantle, the squadron assembling at Hobart aboub Sepfc. 18. From Hobarfc bvro of the vessels will be detached iind sent to New Zealand. HOBART, Aug. 17. 000l 7, murderer of Mrs Ogilvie, wr.j hanged to-day. Ho made a full confession of his guilt. There are many worse ways of making i living, apparently, than by taking to billiards as a profession, since the receipts )f Mr John Roberts for lasfc week's exhi> rition at the Athfeneum were no less than LB6O, of which he gives one fourth (L215) ,o tho Floods Relief Fund. I think ;hat a very greab many people would be squally generous upon the same terms. I vill certainly, myself, willingly guarantee [j215 weokly to any charitable institution vhatever, if in return I am guaranteed ljree times as muofy for jnysslf.
